I have done many years of plant tissue culture. I barely autoclave the racks. Instead we autoclave the 1.5 ml and 2.0 ml tubes all the time. Usually, I just spread ethanol all over the racks and air-dry them in the hood. I don't see any problems. By the way, I think that some companies also sell racks made out of metal. That is another choose.....

I always autoclave the tubes not the racks, as for the racks I soak them for an hour in distilled water then dip them in ethanol before drying them in the hood.

Thank you both for your answers. So basically there is no need to make them from autoclavable material.
