Classroom assessment and evaluation are highly concerned with qualitative judgments that are used to improve studen's’ knowledge and learning. Assessment and evaluation also give teachers useful information about how to improve their teaching methods. Classroom assessment and evaluation concerns:
1 Suitability of general instructional goals and objectives
2 Effectiveness of instructional methods
3 Adequacy of professional resources
Effective classroom assessment and evaluation requires an understanding of the role of evaluation in planning and delivering instruction.
The school based the result of evaluation is a good practice for evaluation of the students .Any education institute apart from will midterm annual examination ,school should arrange periodical test for student .
Test are essential as it is also the ground of preparation for the final examination besides due to the periodical test student remain quite careful in their study material & if the test result are negative it will help the teacher to know the performance of the student & student may have the timely guideline from the teachers for his study progress.
In the present standard range we wonder whether the father has certain times for the students to review his progress & to take remedial measure for his study .
Yes agreed that generally school still based on the results of evaluation in tests (examination). However, observing there are more & more performance based components being included as part of the evaluation in each subject or the entire course e.g. in the form of individual non-test work assignments, group project papers / experiments, field study & report findings collected etc. This performance based evaluation requires more High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) which includes analysis, evaluation & synthesis of knowledge instead of merely remember facts & concepts.
Yes, absolutely agree. In my opinion there is no better way to judge the quality of students at such an elementary level. At school level, it is expected that children should be able to understand the concepts established before at their best level. As, at college level these should be very beneficial for their development.
We should not expect the school going kids to develop google, facebook, twitter etc as it requires expertise. Let them understand the concepts first before you judge there skills.
I think tests can be a good tool for evaluation but they need to be taken many times during the semester or term. Students' performance can never be judged with one test. Rather, there should be an ongoing evaluation process of the students and the final score should be the mean of all the scores acquired during the term or semester.
Yes, a large majority of schools still use test-based assessments although it has been established, overwhelmingly, that test based assessments are not the true reflection of learning.
There are several reasons for schools to stick to test-based evaluations. Some are people-related (untrained teachers for example) and rest are policy-related. Unless grass root level transformation happens, we will see it continued at the expense of limited learning by the students.
