Do you agree with me that constructive criticism of researchers may add something to their research and to society, but there is criticism that stems from envy, hatred, and hatred, and this harms society?
No i don't agree with you as criticism of research work is a great help but criticism of researchers doesn't help. As each person have their own preceptive, writing skills and reflections that need to be respective but body of work can be critiqued
If you criticize the researcher or for that matter anybody does so, it is case of logical fallacy called argumentum ad hominum. therefore, I agree with the position that criticizing the researcher instead of research work is not the right thing. I may mention the case when Robert Cook reviewed Etzioni's book on organizations in American Sociological Review. Instead finding the errors in his review, many sociologists branded Cook as Bolshevik.
Many thanks for your smart response dear colleagues,
Exactly this is what I wrote about criticizing research and work as constructive criticism. "It may benefit the research community. As for criticizing researchers, it is only out of envy."
The difference is major. When I used to peer review articles for publication, I used to give constructive criticism and this gave the author/s the view of someone else. Hopefully, I was someone who knew about the subject and allowed the author/s then to be accepted for publication, after making positive changes.
But I would never have just criticised; that would have been very unkind.
And I think the same principal goes for constructive criticism of research. I was always grateful for someone to point things out that I had not realised. Sometimes I used to wonder why I had not thought about whatever s/he had mentioned to me.
Wonderful words, thank you for your understanding of my question, and I wish the rest of the researchers and academics, when evaluating research and articles, to work with your point of view, which I am proud of.
Constructive criticism should always be objective, not demotivate researchers especially new researchers. In my opinion, when researchers criticize out of hatred, anger and jealousy it shows their own research insecurity, inexperience, and inferiority complex
Thank you very much. You have expressed what I mean by my question, raising awareness of the academic and research community for constructive criticism, and encouraging researchers and academics, new or old, to give, not to break their ambitions in scientific research and to prevent hate violence in criticism.
Sure, constructive criticism adds to the researcher and the society because, it is the kind of criticism that seeks to better the subject. It's a kind of criticism that seeks to improve and add value. That looks into ways of making things better. Opening a new level of understanding of the subject matter. It is geared towards improving the research, researcher and society cos it's constructive not destructive.
The mere fact of 'constructive criticism' certainly adds value and new knowledge to the researcher. It not only throws light on the subject of the researcher but also widens the research horizon of the researcher. The validity of any research has to give sufficient space to look at the subject from different angles. Criticism need not be cynical and discouraging rather to encourage the researcher to move further in search of knowledge.
In my opinion, constructive criticism is useful for correcting what is not right in research so that it is based on facts in research that research displays facts or data that are in accordance with the provisions of research procedures. Meanwhile, criticism that comes from envy, hatred, and harms the community is only based on one's dislike for researchers where what is conveyed is not based on data facts in research so what is conveyed with hate speech is not constructive, looks illogical or cannot be accepted by reason.
