If there was a real separation from the middle ages, between the new science and religion, with a gradual recognition of its social utility both in the faith and humanitarian conduct for religion, as well as greater knowledge of the world and of nature with respect to science .
Currently everyone is responsible for their scientific and religious convictions as freethinkers; and before the freedom of choice and of thought, in a more tolerant society.
It is not a matter of agree or disagree on the statement. Among the ancient tribes, may be of 10000 years ago, there were fighting. Those tribes we're having separate totems and separate rituals which may be considered as primitive form of religions.
So fight among so called religious groups to cut throat of men of other group/s and to bring the ladies and girls to own group was a very primitive practice.
We are just continuing it though we demand that we are modern and educated!
There are so many important things that a religion also provide to human mankind which also has scientific understanding. I think that before development of science, many important religious concepts were the principles of development of human civilization. Every thing has its positive and negative side. There are many important moral principles in every religion, which seems to be declining with development of scientific knowledge and this may also cause a conflict. I beleive in harmony between two.
The perseverance between religion and scientific development has a very long history. The main reason is that religious education has traditionally led to extremism, blood shed, and useless polemical debates. Such dark memories have reduced the role of religion in education especially in the western culture. However, a closer scrutiny of the historical narratology, holy scriptures, and Quran reveals that , in most religions such as Christianity and Islam, attainment of knowledge has seriously been advocated . However, the propaganda against religion is so great that the perseverance between religion and science cannot be resolved in the foreseeable future.
I think that the fault is in human beings and not in religions because all religions call for tolerance, love and peace. I do not agree with you. Best wishes
Probably the true causes or the main reasons in the conflicts are not religious. But it seems useful to fight in the name of a religion because it is easier to motivate and involve people to fight and sacrifice their lives in the name of a God. Obviously no God and no religion preaches war. But the potentates let the simple and little educated people understand exactly the opposite. See: https://www.researchgate.net/post/What_was_the_meaning_of_religious_wars
It is true that there is an influence of religion in a serious incident in history. However, it is also clear in historical fact that other factors are substantial.
Ideally, the religion and science would have to exist absolutely independently of each other. The history, unfortunately, indicates unattainability of such state of affairs.
It is very strange that scientist claim regarding the religion in a negative forum .However their research talks about the nature ,our earth ,our planets , our sun ,moon, & sky reflecting their program for the mankind .In this they talk about their religion for the last 3000 years .In this regards why to learn in such old passing years ,What about the 2 world war disturbing & killing thousand of person & as a scientist what remains the play of the nature including earth quakes ,cyclone, & such other areas .
It is no use of blaming the religion as every where in the world in quite good many case due to the religion ,power of prayer, meditation, yoga , & silence sitting for the solving the problem come in the light due to the religion .
Religion is a matter of faith for all of us that requires the mutual respect of each of our beliefs because all religions or religious philosophy are based on the love of the other who forbids all division
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? "Scientists have claimed that religion has actually been dividing our society and causing conflict for more than 3,000 years". If you disagree with the statement, please explain why?
There can be certain groups of people try to politicalize religions to achieve their own personal agendas. Since different people / groups of people have different religious beliefs, some people try to harness this differentiator / exposure to their advantage & blame it on religion. Religion supposed to enhance the relationship between human beings & God but someones try to break this relationship or divide the society into we vs them etc.
Just curious, can anyone share any scientific / empirical evidence that religion is the contributor for society division & conflict? Also why "more than 3,000 years" - meaning in earlier days of human beings, there was no such issue? Please feel free to share? Thanks.
The question is a real anguish which actually pinching to every human being. Religion preaches how to live together in society. It's our lack of knowledge and practice about our religion that weakens our faith to a level of dividing our societies.
