I am trying to forecast rainfall in decadal scale by using CMIP5 decadal experiment family data. GCMs have different spatial resolutions those cover more than 55 km ground distance (in Australia). I am interested to work in catchments scale. I can interpolate the GCMs output and can convert them 0.05 degree spatial resolution. But I am in doubt that, Is the interpolation is enough to work in catchment scale or I need to use statistical downscaling? Is there anyone who can help me by giving the better idea?
Interpolating from 0.5 degrees (55km) grid to 0.05 degrees is very unrealistic in terms of data quality and physics. I will advice you to use another available high spatial resolution regional climate model or run your own model.
Thanks for your advice. But in CMIP5 decadal experiment family data has no finer resolution. Every model has spatial resolution of more than 2 degree.@Akintomide Afolayan Akinsanola
You need a statistical downscaling or look for RCM in your area of study. It does not make sense to interpolate from 2° to 0.05°.
