The Campus Placement season starts from the end of 6th Semester. The performance of student in 'Aptitude Test', 'Communication Skills', 'Group Discussions', etc play a major role compared to his / her 'Subject Knowledge'. Institutes hire outside people (Non-technical) to train the students in 'Soft Skills' and charge the students a hefty fee. The 'Subject Knowledge' of student is rarely tested. That is why students stop attending the classes from 7th Semester onwards.
The IT sector is growing very fast now-a-days.
But according to some past news, it was seen that some 3000 colleges in india opted to close their IT departments by requesting to the UGC. The decision was however not implemented. Suggestions came that, the IT departments be merged with the C. S. departments. Even in the GATE exam, their is no separate paper for IT.
This may be a reason, why in - depth subject knowledge in I.T. is not so much asked during interviews. May be because it is assumed that, the student knows what is required for the industry, he is joining.
No doubt the students In-depth knowledge is very important for getting selected but the most important factor is ATTITUDE of the student, that is what most of the companies look for.
When a person gets recruited in a company he has to understand the working of the organization, In order to do that he/she is trained to fit in the organization which results in enhancement of the skill set of the selected person. However, it the attitude with helps a company in selecting a good candidate on whom they can count on and treat him as a long term asset.
In order to get good placements for an institution it is important to see the syllabus that is followed and review the syllabus as per the changing needs of the Industry. The need of the hour is to bridge the gap between Academia and Industry. At present the status is that the gap between the both is widening, however the training and placement institutions know the importance of the same that is why they are doing the right thing by giving short trainings to enhance the skills of a candidate so that he/she is fit to meet the requirements of the Industry.
If we want to do quality research, or industry oriented education we have to inculcate skills which are industry oriented, research oriented (keeping the changing requirements of the industry in mind) and entrepreneurial skills.
According to me subject knowledge is very much important in general, but when it comes to matter of Campus Placement in IT Industries, it has least importance (until you are in Computer Science or IT Branch) because rarely any IT companies requires our Subjective knowledge. They need soft skills and remaining which they require from their employee, they teaches/trains them in their training procedure.

No, just an overview of the subject and impressive communication skills are required as far as campus placements are concerned.
Mr. Akash, as per your statement, it seems that a person who is not from IT or CS background but has good communication skills will get good campus placement. I have a question in this regard, do you think he can sustain in the Industry if at all he is selected.
I dont find this as a feasible answer.
It is very important to have good communication skills but subject does make a difference as well. Communication skills do correspond of different attributes, out of which body language and confidence are vital, these attributes are positive only when you are in good in your subject. If you are not having command on the subject then my dear body language, you expression, confidence does explain it all to the evaluator. You cannot fool an expert by just having communication skills only.

Point is that are our collage is only teaching which is there in text book page to page and line to line.
Aptitude Test', 'Communication Skills', 'Group Discussions' is there they can get job in Campus Placement in IT Industries.
If they have Subject Knowledge they can start up there own company.
