It is well known that higher plants have interstitial transport of nutrients or photosynthates due to their different tissues and organs. However, macroalgae are relatively backward in evolution, with almost no true differentiation of tissues or organs between their cells.
So, macroalgae, especially some of the more complex macroalgae like Sargassum, due to the huge differences in their organizational structures, is there really a transfer of nutrients or photosynthates between these “tissues” between cells or between the “organs”? If not, how are the different parts of the macroalgae related to each other? If so, which substances are involved in this process?

of course they have, and in Macrocystis it is investgated a lot. Photosynthates between leafs and rhizoid are transported very fast through the medulla, a phloemlike tissue. Some of the macroalgae are very high developped organisms, e.g.in the generation cycle some of them are pure diplonts, what means they do not develop a gametophyt. Thios status was not reached by landplants. People, who say the are primitive organisms, do not understand the ecophysiological situation/needs within/of the aquatic environment.
Thank you. I wonder if these "signals or information" that are transmitted from cell to cell in the macroalgae are transmitted directly through the membrane. In that case, does it have receptors on the cell membrane?
To my knowledge there is a lack of knowledge. There are hormone like stuff which are transported for regulation purposes, like absicsic acid, which already occur in algae. So there should be receptors. They control also the activity of the meristem, which are in kelp in seasonal dependence.
