I have a Si photodiode (hamamatsu S2281 series) in my optical set up (figure attached).

Basically the light from the laser (fs-pulsed @ 1550 nm) passes through a Lambda/2 plate (for 1550 nm) and then hits the photodiode.

What I observed (Second attachment) is that as the lambda/2 rotates 180 degrees, I observe two valleys similar to a cos^2(theta) that I would observed IF I had a polarizer in front of my photodiode.

Is it possible that the photodetector itself is polarized?
