I am thinking about the boosting effect of annual influenza vaccinations and wondering how relevant the level of antibodies remaining from the previous years vaccination are, and does this differ between men and women.
In Rubella virus it was shown that in natural infection, the initial acute immune response was higher in males against the potent neutralizing domain. Whereas the females retained higher overall mean response compared to males in convalescent phase.
But, in vaccination with live-attenuated virus, there was initially a difference in immune response (in early weeks) but then after re-immunization, no difference was observed in males or females.
