I am helping someone with a study, but I have limited experience with plant extracts.

We ordered Sigma 'Powdered Holy Basil Extract' CAS Number 91845-35-1. We then dissolved the entire 1g in 5ml DMSO (100%).

After aliquoting into Eppendorf tubes (1.1ml) they were placed into -20'C freezer.

After 3-days, they are still not frozen.

We speculated that it was due to lipid concentration (the resulting liquid looks 'oily'), but we are unsure whether we should just try to freeze at -80'C?

Has anyone had any experience with this?
