I have been dealing with inflation accounting for a long time. Inflation accounting, if not applied distorts the figures dramatically. Companies using their own resources pay taxes despite the fact that their inflation adjusted financial statements present a loss. And the opposite is also true. Those companies that use other peoples resources end up paying taxes when their financial statements are adjusted for the inflation effect. Turkiye, Argentina are the best examples of this phenomenon. I recently wrote a paper about this subject and compared inflation and devaluation effects on financial statements, Turkiye is being the example country but unfortunately non of the journals were interested in publishing it except one from a Romanian University journal. Even accounting/finance journal editors cannot evaluate the severe effects on high inflation and devaluation on financial statements let alone a lay man in the street. That`s what I am thinking after my recent experience.
