I am looking for methods to differentially activate synaptic and extrasynaptic NMDA receptors. There are reports where researchers have used Bicuculline, nifedipine and glycine to activate synaptic NMDA receptors. But based on current papers, it's been mentioned that glycine is much more potent co- agonist for extrasynaptic NMDARs while D-serine is for synaptic NMDARs. Based on these facts, please suggest me how to differentially activate and inactivate synaptic and extrasynaptic NMDARs to study the role of their activations in the regulation of certain molecules.
