It seems to me that the two curves should be inversely related; the success curve goes up where the learning curve goes down, and vice versa.
Learning curve refers to the Graphical representation that shows that if a person performs similar task again, then after a period of time there will be an improvement in quality of the task and in the speed of doing the task.
I agree with Kirk McGregor. A researcher should not consider his or her effort as a failure until he or she has given up completely. The current stage is only an appraisal stage. Even many known successful research results still leave room for improvement.
