Pakistani universities are offering two pay scales these days. ?Basic Pay scale and tenure track system. Which one is better and what are pros and cons?
I think BPS and TTS both have their pros and cons. I would recommend BPS to young PhDs who are about to start their career and TTS to those seasoned retired professionals who have already completed their first innings of their professional career.
Majority will prefer to go for BPS if both options are given to them.
Any how TTS system was developed to retain the faculty in country by offering attractive package for five years. After 5 years person on TTS becomes obsolete in terms of knowledge and there is NO CHANCE OF BRAIN DRAINAGE. Hence Purpose of TTS is achieved ;)
TTS system is almost fully flopped now. People working on TTS are not given any incentives and pay is never revised for over last 4-5 years. The differenece in pay of BBS and TTS is marginal. BPS system has attraction of pension which job security which TTS faculty can't think of. People who really perform on TTS system, HEC has no idea that how to give them incentives. All performers and non performers are treated equally. So, the purpose of TTS to promote research and all this is dead now. Also, it's common practice now to victimise TTS faculty in many Universities.
Yes I am fully agreed with Dr. Hafiz Ali comments. It is completely flopped system. Here in KU people are waiting for their arrears since more then a years. No one in theUniversity as well as HEC is in a position to reply the queries of the TTS faculty.
TTS was introduced with good intentions, but currently, the majority of people working in HEC and PEC are very corrupt. They are saving the seniors since all of them belong to the same era and respect each other unconditionally. They are leaving no stone unturned to stop the entry of the foreign qualified people in any decision making institution and TTS is ignored to the fullest to stop the competence prevail in the universities and the country. I think TTS should be converted to BPS to at least leave the system to work like the previous decades, if not interested in progress.
Now I have studied about TTS and BPS system..TTS have good salry package but BPS less salry package.TTS no pension at the end of service .but BPS have pension
I agreed with dear Hafiz Ali. That the goal of TTS was to foster research, but that is no longer the case. Furthermore, it is already regular practise in many universities to victimise TTS faculty.
I will never advise in the fever of TTS. The policies of HEC or even Govt are very uncertain. In case of any change in TTS policy, you will be nowhere.
Additionally, in TTS your future will be at the mercy of your seniors. Unfortunately, in our culture, too much leg-pulling.
Yes things are not always bad and also not always good. Current economic situations made TTS a bit more bad, but many people on TTS in last 15 years have alot of positive things to say as well. In the universities where there are very less people yes off course they face more rules implementation related issues.
