In my research, I just find Troides helena male coming from artificial diet containing red bean, pollen and mung bean sprout. In contrast, natural food produces male and female butterfly.
I have got only males butterfly from three kind of artificial diets, unfortunately, it contain malformation wings. Troides helena is very difficult to find in my research area and makes me used few larvae. My observation in Bantimurung areas, ratio of Troides helena butterfly in nature is 7 : 1 (males : female). The population decreasing faster cause wild hunting by local people. It’s very complicated and I have been spent three years in rainforest observed my butterfly target.
By the way, your information very useful for my next research. Thank you very much.
Please let me know, the ideal number of lepidopteran larvae of the sample. Commonly I'm always using 10 larvae in every replication. What do you think about it?
It seems I must hardwork to collect and mass rearing of my Troides helena. Thanks Felipe, it giving me a highlight to make my research better than before.
