Did anyone experience low frequency stimulation inducing potentiation, instead of depression in LFP recordings from accute hippocampal slice?

Hello!

I noticed that in some of my recordings, 15m of 1Hz stimulation result in increase of EPSP slope and amplitude, instead of decrease, like you would expect. For example in this figure.

It doesn't happen always, and a lot of the time it works as expected.

Sis anyone experience anything similar? What can be a cause of this?

We saw opposite effects after high frequency stimulation in distinct GABAergic synaptic connections (in hipзocampal PMID: 11911977 DOI: 10.1016/s0304-3940(01)02541-1 and neocortical cell cultures PMID: 15170824 DOI: 10.1002/syn.20040). Possible reasons for these differential effects are discussed in the second work.

Presumably, similar explanation may also apply to differential effects of low frequency stimulation.
