Develop a planning chart for your dissertation. Begin by constructing a large chart similar to the one shown below. The size of the chart will depend on the space available, the length of time you will need to complete the dissertation, and the size of each entry. In general, a long, narrow chart, about 18 to 48 inches, should be best. Label five horizontal rows, as follows: Administration. In this row, you will be noting all the important administrative requirements and actions, such as formally organising the dissertation committee. Be sure to note the examinations you must take. Be sure to check the current university catalogue. Coursework. In this row, you will note which courses you need to complete and when you plan to complete them. Literature Review. You will note in this row the three phases of the literature retrieval you will complete for the prospectus (the broad scan), the proposal (the focused review), and the dissertation (the comprehensive critique). You will show in this row when you begin and complete each phase. Writing. You will enter here when you expect to complete the writing of the prospectus, the proposal, and the dissertation. In scheduling the dissertation writing, note when you think you will be working on each chapter, ordinarily allowing one month for each. Research. You will note here when you will begin and conclude the research. Note the methodological steps you intend to use in your educational research, and how you will implement the research plan. Divide the chart into several narrow columns, each column marked with a two-week time span. If you think you can finish in one year from the time you start planning, you will need 26 columns; if you think you will need 18 months, then you will need about 38 columns. That gives you a planning chart, on which you enter all the important dates as they relate to the five aspects that need to be planned. #research #dissertation #proposal #thesis #researchproject #Writing #Administration #coursework #literature
