What do you think are most important foci of an ecosystem approach (following James J. Kay and others; see attached!) to integrate production, supply and consumption in the context of global sustainability?
Is it e.g. scale-based spatial considerations, demography, urbanization dynamics, stakeholder (value) governance, or some distinct levers in production, supply, or consumption (LCA, SOM, Responsible Consumerism?), or something else?
If anything, where do you see priorities or research gaps?
The question is deliberately "open" and broad, as not to prejudice answers.

Such integration is often complex and needs to consider a nested system of multiple scales and strategies. A Multiscale Ecosystem Framework can be used to achieve such a deliberate design. Here is a link to my article:

Thank you, Tim, for your contribution. I agree that the analysis of the actual nested organization must be translated into a multiscale, multidimensional framework. The problem is rather to balance the complexity with the applicability. In contrast to the "traditional" EA, we would have to include the transformation levels from the socio-economic and socio-technical area more strongly and offer clear options for action.

The following way may be helpful: conflict production/exploitation matrix compiling for regional stakeholders followed by annual production rate assessment based on ecosystems field studies or ecosystems maps and available field experiments data.

In fact, conflict potentials between stakeholders are often underestimated, have to be assessed and documented, and finally incorporated into consensual solutions. The question is, how do we deal with conflicts that are supraregional and, in the face of global value chains, tend to be teleconnections?
