In traditional on-grid solar systems, any power generated when the grid goes down (e.g., during load shedding) becomes completely unusable, as inverters shut off for safety. This leads to total wastage of clean solar energy during the most critical times — i.e., when it’s actually needed most. The main application of the project is "How do you safely convert and route solar DC power to AC appliances during a power cut, without depending on a battery or traditional inverter?"
Interesting and important question. While my own work focuses on ensuring power reliability in rural areas using hybrid renewable systems (including solar and biogas), I recognize that battery-free designs are critical in many contexts.
One of the key challenges is precisely what you mention: converting and routing solar DC to AC without batteries or traditional inverters. Some alternatives being explored include high-frequency DC–AC converters, grid-forming inverters, and DC-coupled appliances. I’d be curious to see practical low-cost implementations of such systems.
