Hi everyone,
I'm currently getting into machine learning and deep learning coding, just basic stuff for now like image classification and the like. I've seen a paper recently on an open source software like "animal scanner" (Yousif, et al., 2019) which uses machine learning to automatically classify and categorize animal trap photos. However the software in the document folder linked by the appendix of their article doesn't seem to exist anymore, so I never got to test it out myself, unfortunately.
Does anyone know any new papers on the application machine learning and deep learning in ecology, or is anyone using it in their own ecology projects? Any references to papers, new software, R packages, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Gerwin Kasperek Thanks! I've been looking at a few of these papers today. I do love the way these machine learning algorithms are being implemented in things like the inaturalist app, where the recognition becomes more efficient as users submit more records to train the AI

If you go normal classification techniques with the help of ERDAS, ENVI image processing software, there are number of different classification techniques from old to more advanced like maximum likelihood, KNN, ANN, minimum distance, SVM these all works based on the machine learning algorithm only. These all are the supervised classifications, and machine learning is working behind that. You are taking the training set or spectral signature to trend the model and on the basis of training classification output will come. But now a days more advanced classification techniques are emerging but they are not implemented on that image processing software so for that you have to go for programming platform by Python, MATLAB, R etc.

I'm more trying to explore different avenues and projects to see what others are using machine learning and deep learning for in their ecology projects. Anything besides image classification.
Dear Colleagues and Friends from RG, Due to the growing pollution of the environment and the globar warming process which is progressing faster and faster, teaching ecological issues is very important. Teaching ecology should be implemented at every level of education. As part of ecological issues, the ecology curriculum should include the principles of sustainable pro-ecological development conducted in accordance with the principles of green economy. The implementation of the principles of pro-ecological development into economic processes requires the development of ecological innovations and their implementation in pro-ecological economic undertakings as well as the implementation of pro-ecological reforms in various branches and sectors of the economy, including in the energy sector through the development of renewable energy sources. Pro-ecological business ventures should be conducted and financed by both the public and private sectors and should be financed, among others, from green finance sources. Implementing environmentally friendly reforms can significantly slow down adverse climate change processes. In this way, humanity can protect not only themselves from climate Armageddon but also most species of flora and fauna, i.e. biodiversity of the Earth's biosphere. Therefore, the implementation of economic principles of pro-ecological development and protection of the biodiversity of the Earth's biosphere into economic processes is a key challenge for humanity in the 21st century. The principles of sustainable pro-ecological development should be taught at every stage of the education process. In addition, new internet media, including social media portals, and new ICT and ICT 4.0 information technologies should be involved in this process to promote a high level of relevance in society for the issue of high sustainability issues.
