Most academics receive invitations to peer review articles submitted to academics journals. What is not clear is why we do or don't accept invitations to peer review. Please share your insights.

As scientist with some experience you are responsible for the standards and the level of research. There is an interest to hold this. Reviewing is time-consuming. There are natural limits to give your time in this responsible and honourful activity. Sometimes there plays a role to discover new young colleagues with interesting questions, methods and results.
