Julián González-Trinidad et al., 2017 have computed d-excess values of groundwater samples in Mexican alluvial aquifers ranged between −0.85 and 82.94‰, with an average of 32.76‰. The average value of 32.76‰ was different from that of the local meteoric water line, making the evolutionary trend from precipitation in the study area to groundwater unclear. What are your views
Hi Gopal, just saw your post although that you posted long before. I also surprised to see very high d -excess values in the groundwater samples. The authors have mentioned some possibilities of mixing of water from various sources in the aquifer through number of fissures. But as per my experience with the geothermal water of Taiwan I never got such high d excess values. It may be possible that there are some issues with the calibration and storage of the samples. As you know that GV Isoprime can not measure dD and d18O simultaneously (unlike CDRS or OA-ICOS) and it is not mentioned clearly whether they used same bottle /different bottles for dD and d18O analysis . The ratio is very sensitive to a small change of d18O or dD. But it is just a mere speculation from my side.
