Hello. When trying to record CV, after the voltage transitions to the negative region, a sharp jump in current is observed. Increasing the concentration of electrolyte, analyte, or electrode area does not help. Sweep speed 100 mV/s, electrolyte concentration 0.1 M. What could be causing this phenomenon and how can I fix it?

Zolotareva I’m not sure what measurements you are making, so I apologize that I can’t refer to interferences caused by reagents or solutions, but in general terms such interferences can be caused by the connection between electrodes, you can start by checking the condition of the equipment as well as the condition of the electrodes (you can look at the surface through a stereoscope) and if necessary give an aggressive treatment to the surface of the electrodes using different sandpapers, from coarse to fine. As for environmental conditions, oxygen commonly creates an interference on the negative side of the measurement, and it can be reduced by adding nitrogen or argon for about 10 minutes.
