Copper Oxide (CuO) can be an interesting material for applications as absorbent layer in Thin Film Solar Cells (TFSCs) becuase of their optimum bandgap (1.2 eV) and intrinsic p-type semiconducting nature. The main advantage of this material is the low-cost and non-toxicity of the composing elements. Do you think CuO thin films will have potential applications in future TFSC technoligies?

Cuo is not only p-type. I am aware of n-type CuO as well. So there is a huge role for CuO to play in Thin Film Solar cells and PEC Hydrogen production.
Dear Simon Roa there are many type of catalysts that could be produce with different transition metals or metal oxides and CuO thin film is one of them that have suitable properties and show promising results. We don't know which catalyst will be the ideal one but CuO thin films are between possible alternatives.

There is intensive research in using CuO as an absorber in forming thin film solar cells. But the achieved photo conversion efficiency is still low compared to other thin film solar cells based for example on perovskites.

Yes, our research group study TiO2/CuO and TiO2/Cu2O solar cells prepared by the reactive direct-current magnetron sputtering technique. The best efficiency of TiO2/CuO is 0.9%, but simulations with SCAPS indicate 20%.
