Crystallite size of WC phases mechanical alloyed in Cu and Ni decreases with time, however it increases for Fe matrix. I have tried to apply different functions (Gaussian, pV). I have also done Williamson-Hall plot. All results exhibited increase by time for WC in Fe matrix.
MA durations: 2-4-8 hours
WC was added directly.
TEM investigations did not give us any fringe, but we have observed some defect concentrations.

Being retired I cannot claim to be an expert in the field of MA. As a matter of fact I have no personal experience in MA. Nevertheless, as your question is interesting I dare to make some preliminary and tentative remarks:
1. I assume the temperature during MA for the three cases mentioned is equal and that WC has the low-temperature lattice.
2. Different behaviour might arise from different solid solubilities; an indication for this might be found in studying the corresponding ternary phase diagrams at the appropriate temperature.
3. I think the affinity of C to the metal atoms concerned increases in the series Cu, Ni, Fe; note that this point can be at least partly, taken as a reformulation of point 2.
4. However, during MA there might develop a distribution of C between WC and Fe such that the Fe matrix is in fact a Fe-Fe3C matrix causing a work function differing in this case (alpha/gamma Fe -Fe3C depending on the temperature during MA) from the cases with fcc Cu and fcc Ni, due to different interactions during MA.
