Hi everyone,
Recently we have encountered a case of Peritectic Grade - Micro Alloyed steel slab cracking and breaking into two pieces while handling during transportation.
The casting temperature was 1540 Celsius and casting speed is 1 m/min.
Looking for clues into possible reasons why it cracked and what could be the reason of crack generation in slab during casting. Suggestions and ideas are greatly appreciated.

Completed the investigation into why this slab cracked. Some very interesting results found which is related to cooling strategy of these grades. Will be sharing the results in the form of a report in next few days.
Please check the microstructure of the Steel as well as the homogeneity. High probably it cracks due to presence of high amount of inclusions .

Did an optical micrograph of the crack region. These cracks are interdendritic. We found the reason to be accelerated cooling after casting due to production pressure which led to an aggravation of cracks.
