March 18, 2020: COVID-19; It is designated a global pandemic with a high mortality rate in elderly and medically compromised people. Before the vaccines, and other treatments are available, with reports of probable lack of necessary hospital beds, ICU beds, and ventilators, etc., we need a treatment. Why not ramp up production of antivirus, and provide wide range distribution to the vulnerable populations (an example, to everyone over 65 and those with pre-existing medical conditions). I believe that those in danger would forgo the extensive and time consuming trials and take a chance with a drug that has not been well tested against this exact virus. Antivirals have been well tested against other viruses, and for human safety, including other Corona viruses. Partially treatment may be better than nothing at the present time. For example, Antivirals such as remdesiver apparently have anti-Corona activity. Several others exist as well. After all, this is a "global emergency."
