Has anyone tried coupling or patching external airflow CFD results with internal airflow simulations using ANSYS Fluent? My goal is to accurately model how external airflow influences the indoor airflow dynamics within a building.

Running external airflow simulations for each internal scenario individually is computationally expensive and time-consuming. To address this, I am planning to:

  • Perform a comprehensive external airflow simulation once.
  • Extract or crop the region immediately surrounding the building from the external simulation domain.
  • Use the extracted airflow results as boundary conditions for subsequent internal airflow simulations.
  • If anyone has experience with this approach or similar techniques in Fluent, I would greatly appreciate any insights, suggestions, or references you could share. Thanks!
