Could you suggest some alternative to syto 9 staining to observe chemotactic behavior in E. coli?

I want to observe chemotactic movement of e coli using fluorescence microscope. DAPI staining protocol didn't work for me and syto 9 is too expensive.

Thank you so much. I tried using DAPI twice, and both times it didn't stain properly, even with concentrated DAPI solution. Thanks 😁
