For us, the "Security in the Internet of Things" includes innovation ecosystem, trust, and industrial applicability as the main headlines.

The innovation ecosystem on top of the "Internet of Things" has to address the benefits of sharing data, and ensuring privacy. Mechanisms should address technology (bitcoin, blockchain,...), but also the platforms on where players can virtually exchange.

Trust seems to me the imminent driver for a secure IoT ecosystem. Why would people otherwise join? However, the challenge of trust measures is hard to be solved, if not impossible: Granularity, Transitive Trust, Reflective Trust are just some topics. We might need novel aspects taken from social networking to address trust.

Industrial applicability of our research is my third topic. Especially in the area of Smart Grids I see the too sides between industry and academia: Industry still using mechanisms from "ages ago", huge investments, potential risks, thus I see industry focussing on risk assessment and mitigation. Academia has worked with security models, updating algorithms in a frequent way. However, the time-lines between algorithm development, computer development and industrial infrastructure are really different, making adaptability of IoTSec a challenge.

We have created the Initiative IoTSec.no, with the goal of bringing the leading academia/research institutes in Norway together with the Smart Grid industry, and envisage a Security Centre for Smart Grid.

Thus, I'm sure we'll follow this discussion :-)
