It looks like you are specifically looking for biomedical study designs, as opposed to economic or social study designs. I wrote a paper last year that covers a lot of biomedical research study designs (citation and link below). There are several references there that may help.
Ken Rothman and Sander Greenland have some great epidemiological study design (observational studies) books but they can be pretty dense. Koepsell and Weiss also have some great books including "Epidemiologic Methods".
If you are looking for clinical research (controlled trials) a book by Stephen Hulley et al titled "Designing Clinical Research" is solid. Also Weiss's "Clinical Epidemiology" is good.

Article Observational and interventional study design types; an overview
For clinical trials, you could consider Steven Piantadosi's "Clinical Trials: A Methodologic Perspective", which is reasonably comprehensive.
