I am in a need of a good and successful example of revitalization of river bank, coast in the smaller or bigger city/town through good urban planning and architecture.
A very good and successful example of riverbank revitalization is the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project in Ahmedabad, India. Earlier, the Sabarmati riverbank was dirty, had slums, and people used to throw waste there. The riverfront area was not safe or useful for the public. The city planned and changed this area with good urban planning and architecture.
They cleaned the river, built strong walls on both sides to stop floods, and created wide walkways, gardens, parks, cycling tracks, and seating areas for people. They also made spaces for cultural programs, markets, and public activities. Now, the riverfront is green, clean, and safe. Many people visit it daily for morning walks, festivals, and spending time with family. It has also increased tourism and improved the beauty of the city.
This project is seen as a model example of how a dead or dirty riverbank can be brought back to life by good planning, architecture, and by thinking about both nature and people. Many other Indian cities are now trying to copy this idea.
