The 2mM should be in monomer concentration terms. So, How do I calculate how much mass of polyacrylic acid do I need to measure if the average molecular weight(Mw) of choosen polyacrylic acid is 12000. If someone knows, please tell me in detail with mass calculation strategies.
The monomer chemical formula is C3H4O2, which has a molecular weight of 72.
If the average polymer molecular weight is 12,000, then the average polymer molecule contains 12,000/72=167 monomers.
A 1 mM solution of PAA based on the average molecular weight of 12,000 therefore consists of 167 mM acrylic acid monomers.
To make a 2 mM solution based on monomers, make a 2/167 = 0.012 mM solution of PAA based on the average polymer molecular weight.
For 1 L of 0.012 mM polymer:
1 L x 0.000012 mol/L x 12,000 g/mol = 0.144 g of polymer.
