Could filtering quercetin through a 0.45 um milex filter alter its quality?
We compared the absorbances of two quercetins (one filtered through a 0.45um milex filter and the other unfiltered) dissolved totally in absolute ethanol as solvent. Starting from the same stock concentration (1mg/ml), the two quercetins were prepared together in two calibration ranges from 50 to 800 ng/ml according to the aluminum trichloride method.
As result, the absorbances of the filtered quercetin were 2 times lower than those of the unfiltered quercetin.
For example, at 510nm in a concentration of 50ng/ml, the absorbances of the filtered quercetin were 0.050 and those of the unfiltered quercetin was 0.110. Same thing for the other concentrations.
Do we wonder if the filtration altered the quality of the quercetin or purified it? or explanations for this.
