I have just been reading a piece in JSTOR Daily (an email weekly newsletter) where Jennifer B Nuzzo was interviewed about the COVID-19 epidemic:

She discussed the steps that people in the community should take to prevent droplet infection; staying at home, maintaining the physical distance from people of 6 feet, when out, hand hygiene (and cough hygiene) and not transferring the virus from infected surfaces that you might touch, to your eyes, nose or mouth.

There is a lot in this article and I have looked at it several times.

At the moment, I am only going out as necessary but infrequently, for a major shopping expedition and getting home again. The shops are doing their best to prevent the spread (keeping shoppers away from each other, spraying trolley and basket handles) and the people who I have encountered have been very respectful of all this despite the long queues of well separated individuals.

My concern is that not everyone will not continue to behave in such a disciplined manner.

Especially if shortages become serious, will this become a problem? I don't think we have anything to compare possible social unrest on such vast proportions with.

So, sorry, Dr John Mendy; I haven't supplied any useful information apart from stating my possible concern of the effect of the virus on everyone's lives.

If a deep global economic crisis occurs in 2020 due to the development of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic, then the economic effects in many countries and for many enterprises and companies, including many small business entities as well as for some large international corporations will be big. Depending on how individual countries cope with the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic, what financial outlays will be allocated to the currently launched anti-crisis, interventionist, macroeconomic economic policies, they will recover from the economic crisis faster or slower in a few months. Another issue is to increase the importance and scale of e-learning. Well, due to the development of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic, full-time teaching classes at schools and colleges have now been suspended and replaced by e-learning in many countries. Due to the suspension of stationary didactic classes in schools and colleges, classes are conducted remotely, through various new online media through specific forms of e-learning. The growing importance and development of e-learning is also correlated with the current acceleration of the digitization processes of the economy. On the other hand, teachers are currently looking for answers to the following research questions: How will the current state of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic affect learning outcomes? There are many questions that will be answered in the future. Certainly, the current SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic will significantly accelerate the digitization of the economy, including teaching classes remotely via the Internet. In the field of remote teaching and necessary system changes, improvement of IT and internet infrastructure in schools and in the homes of users, students, etc. there are many interesting issues that can and are currently being studied. Another issue is the constant, continuous improvement of safety rules to limit the development of a pandemic. Due to the development of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic causing Covid-19 disease, specific procedures, techniques, recommendations and guidelines for specific safety principles are being constantly and constantly improved in many countries to limit the development of a pandemic. For example, a legal recommendation or order to remain in home quarantine and wear a face mask in public places. Thanks to these security principles, the scale of pandemic development is much smaller than it would be if these security measures were not taken. Thanks to these actions, the pandemic should also end faster. However, the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus just like other viruses quickly mutates. New strains with a slightly different genetic composition are constantly being created. As you read my comment, new mutant strains of Coronavirus are emerging. However, most of the new, mutant strains of Coronavirus do not differ much or in practice almost completely do not differ from the previous ones. New strains are created in a short time, but genetically differing only to a very small extent. But in the situation of a much longer time of virus functioning in many people, during infections of many more people, infections occurring in different environments and situations in which people operate, it is possible that different varieties, strains may occur on individual continents, in particular countries, regions Coronavirus, which can vary significantly and cause noticeable, significantly different effects, different responses of the infected organism, and may cause other symptoms of the same Covid-19 disease. Therefore, in laboratories where research teams are currently working on the development and development of SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus vaccine, this issue is certainly being taken into account. So, for the vaccine to be effective, it should be of a universal nature, taking into account different strains of Coronavirus and / or will have to with each subsequent season of infection growth, e.g. with each subsequent autumn-winter season (similarly as in the case of vaccines for new strains of influenza viruses) new vaccine versions should be created for new diagnosed SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus strains. Perhaps these versions of the vaccine will have to be developed at least a few, i.e. for regional, continental diagnosed types, strains occurring in given regions, continents of the Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Therefore, a negative scenario cannot be ruled out that new strains, mutated new types of SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus will, similarly to influenza, appear with each subsequent autumn-winter season in subsequent years and in the situation of a significant decrease in the resistance of the population of a given human community. However, in the context of analyzing the development of a pandemic, the key issue is the development of effective therapies, treatment methods, primarily the creation of a SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus vaccine. The sooner the vaccine is invented, the faster the risk of a pandemic reoccurring will be significantly reduced or completely eliminated. Perhaps without the vaccine in a few weeks in most countries, the pandemic will begin to expire on its own, but the risk of the pandemic returning will remain and be high until effective treatments are developed. It is to be hoped that, thanks to the above-mentioned public safety measures and scientific research being carried out, the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic causing Covid-19 disease is finally beginning to regress and decrease. There are events that reshape societies, from the language we use to the level of security and control we are used to. Corona falls into this category that reshapes societies, and may even have a greater impact. This global virus that keeps us in our homes actually changes the form of our relationship with political power, the outside world, and our relationships with others. Accordingly, it will have a serious impact on all knowledge in various fields .

Given the impact that COVID-19 has on shipping (including the cruise industry), I am planning to research seafarers from a citizenship and belonging perspective. It has been researched from a health and safety, as well as an employment relations perspective, but there seems to be an absence of research from the point of view of their sense of belonging and citizenship when they spend six months of the year at sea. International ships would make an excellent "laboratory" for exploring methodological interculturalism.

Bradley, linking the pandemic to the welfare of seafarers from a citizenship and belonging angle promises new insights into the topic. I'm interested in this study's progress. Many thanks for sharing your thoughts.
