There is a book dedicated to the theory and examples related to convex optimization. The is written by Stephen Boyd and freely available at Stanford University Site. I also recommend you to go through his video lectures.

Now most of the research work on several communication branches is based on using the different forms of the optimization techniques. You should care for the problem formulation which ranges from optimization with constrains or without constrains and the problem is convex or concave and what machine specification do you use and you need to solve the problem on-line or of-line. In communications and based on my experience, the Two main hottest topics that use the optimization massively (Cognitive Radio and 5G ). So you just go to the internet and search for the two topics in general ( for example the keywords on your search 5G , Optimization) or (Cognitive Radio, Optimization) you will find massive of papers even several M. Sc., and Ph. D. Thesis that cover your needs.

The book by Boyd is a general one. Thats why I want some thing dedicated to Wireless. I agree with Prof El Sayed, it is a hot area and tutorials on problem formulation is what i am looking for.
