In general, each theme or theoretical category would be the equivalent of a multi-item scale in a survey. If you are not familiar with writing survey items and creating scales, a good introductory source is: Fowler, Survey Research Methods, from Sage.

I do not know much of anything about MMR but I do know that you use surveys for QUANT and Questionnaires for Qual.

I am sorry to say that I could not understand the whole lot you asked. If data has already been collected, what is the need of the survey at all? In my personal opinion, survey instrumentation can be best done with the help of interview questionnaires that synchronize objective questions in numerically exploitable forms.

Perfect. This is the book actually i just got. Thank you so much for the reply. David L Morgan However, looking into MMR books,to guide me through this, most of them discuss about instrument development and generalise findings-which are not appropriate for my study. I feel that your book is the only one who discusses the survey research but i am not sure how to differentiate between the purpose of discovery and development. Do you think i need to decide before i progress? Could you suggest any articles who done this type of MMR and would be useful to read?

If you have already conducted your qualitative research and created themes, then you are at the point of developing your quantitative measures. (In contrast, discovery would mean that you still need to learn what you should measure.)

As, David L Morgan indicated, this is a typical example of sequential exploratory mixed methods design, in which one can use the qualitative findings and through, building and connecting integration techniques, can develop instruments and identify variables for survey. A detailed discussion of the data analyses methods is presented in Bazeley ( 2018). She outlines the detailed process of data integration and analysis for convergent, sequential exploratory, and sequential explanatory mixed methods designs. Also, Creswell and Plan-Clark, (2018) includes some details on this too.
