I have developed a scale on problematic use of internet in Urdu. For its convergent validity can i use a scale in English as i cannot find related constructs in Urdu.
Yes sir the constructs are same but languages are different. I am going to develop psychometric properties on a university student's sample who understand both languages. Just wondering whether i would be ok to do so. David L Morgan
Muneeba Shakeel. My sense is that you can do what you are suggesting, but that it might be best conceived of as a form of construct validity that could be referred to as Correlations with tests measuring the same construct .
In my view, convergent validity would involve correlating your measure with measures that relate NOT to the same (exact same) construct, but to constructs that are theoretically related to your primary construct. The distinction between these two kinds of validity (convergent validity and correlations with tests measuring the same construct - both of which fall under the category of construct validity) is subtle, but they are indeed different from each other.
I hope that helps conceptually. In case it helps further, you might like to read an article that I have placed about psychometrics onto RG. That article is overtly about measurement of foot health, but its principles transfer to other topics.
