In conventional scheme, reflux to tower is generally on flow control and net liquid overhead product out is on level control. In one of my process, reflux flow is very just 500 Kg/h and product flow is 100 kg/H. Centrifugal pumps will not function at such lower flow rates. I have to go for positive displacement (PD) pump. How can I have flow control for reflux when it is being pumped by PD pump?
Following option.
1. You can control the flow by control valve and recycle the rest by recycle vale.
2. Installed less capacity Centrifugal pump.
3. You can install PD pump (Diaphragm pump etc.)
Centrifugal pumps are constant head (variable flow) pumps, whereas PD pumps are constant flow (variable head) pumps. so for your case it is better to provide low capacity centrifugal pump with flow control valve at discharge.
Alternatively, you can also use variable speed drive instead of flow control valve.
