Please suggest regarding use of "Continuum shell elements SC8R", for analysis of laminated composite plates subject to Thermal gradient loading. i'm trying to simulate this problem and interested in tracing Sxx,Syy, Sxy i.e. S11, S22, S13 (normal shear stress and transverse shear stress). As the SC8R is capable to simulate this and can trace transverse shear stress in thickness direction as well as can allow to apply temperature gradient in thickness direction. But as element SC8R are based on a first-order shear deformation theory it will produce output less accurate output as compare to actual elastic theory and other Higher order shear deformation theories (HOSDT) which are documented in various literatures.  I have to compare this numerical solution (using ABAQUS) with analytical solutions (elastic or HOSDT). The plots of S11, S22, S13 and U1,U2, U3 etc. are not matching with bench mark plots based on elastic/HOSDT solution..... if i compare numerical solution (using ABAQUS) with analytical solutions (elastic or HOSDT).....

Actually we can not expect solution based on FOSDT (by ABAQUS) and HOSDH or elastic solutions to match...

please suggest how to model this shell in ABAQUS, so that i can get comparable solution (i.e. how to use Higher order shear deformation theories (HOSDT) in ABAQUS).......... Which element to choose so that it will work based on HOSDT...
