hi, can someone help with possible ways of doing content analysis from annual reports of Indian companies. I am looking at risk disclosure practices of companies and how can i create a risk disclosure score or index to show its impact on corporate governance practices.
Past literature show content analysis via NVivo as a tool.
is thr any other method / tool to calculate risk [financial and operating both] from annual reports?
Create a check list for all types of risks reviewed in your conceptual literature and rate them according with numbers. For instance, if you select five types of risks reviewed and capture them in your check list, it means that for a company that reports all these types of risks in its annual report will have a score of 1 (5/5). For another year or company that has reported only four types of the risks captured in the check list will have a score of 0.8 (4/5). That is all you need to get your data for analysis.
Selecting the right tool (e.g., NVivo software or others) depends on the objectives of your study. However, for financial statement analysis, you may use horizontal, vertical, and/or ratio analysis, among others.

The first step is to do extensive review of literature in order to develop a checklist of items that constitute risk disclosure.
The second step is to obtain the financial statements of the selected companies for the period under consideration.
The third step is to use the checklist you developed earlier to check from the financial statements whether the items are disclosed or not. Award a score of 1 when there is disclosure or 0 when there is no disclosure.
The fourth step is to construct disclosure index using the appropriate formular.
