Hello everybody,

I have a problem in obtaining conformal meshing in Ansys R16. As shown in the image, I have 4 bodies formed into 2 parts. The parts are supposed to be in contact.

  • I would like to have conformal meshing between the 2 parts such that, mesh is continuous between B3 and B4 (single set of nodes at this interface) and discontinuous mesh between B1 and B2 (set of overlapping nodes). Something similar to crack modeling.

Previously, I was able to work with DCB like specimen (in 3D) using 'node merge' between B3 and B4. Node merge worked as I had structured and same mesh in both the parts of the DCB specimen. In the present case, owing to curved geometries, I am able to get similar meshing on both the parts (but not same) and node merge does not merge all the overlapping nodes at the interface between B3 and B4.

I believe I am overlooking something and this should be possible in Ansys. Please let me know if you need more info.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Regards

Shree
