Excessively detailed abstract or oral presentation can handicap the future publication of a full article in few ways. 

To present a paper at a conference, it is assumed that the paper is either completed or almost complete.  When submitting your conference paper which will be peer-reviewed by somebody interested in the topic as well, you are advised 'never' to submit full-data or 'full paper' except the conference promised that every accepted papers will be published in the journal associated with the conference association.

There are two sides to submitting papers as brief abstracts or full paper. 

If you submit a brief abstract and the result appear interesting, the paper will be accepted. Upon invitation to attend the conference after acceptance, you can then provide some slides to explain what you did in the paper. Senior researchers prefer to submit 'full abstract' to conference rather than 'full paper'. By full abstract, I mean providing a lot of information as to why the topic is interesting to examine with available data. You don't have to speak about the data source or robust results. Just present brief result in the full abstract.

If you submit a full paper, there are lots of benefits such as receiving feedback from peers as you mention. However, there is only one drawback to submitting full paper and this singular drawback have discourage researchers like myself from submitting full paper again. The singular drawback is that somebody who is working on the same topic as yours (without your knowledge) can take ideas from your 'full paper' and use your good ideas to make their paper more robust, more solid, more convincing, and richer. The implication of this is that, the person will possibly submit the improved paper to a top journal before you and the paper may be published before your paper because you will need to take more time to improve your paper if you receive comments that you feel should be incorporated into your current paper.

Remember, that in publishing, the person that gets published first takes the credit regardless of whether or not the idea was not theirs in the first place.

Going forward, I never submit full papers to conference. The only exception to this is when I have already submitted the paper to  a journal and the paper has been accepted with minor or major revision. Submitting the paper to a conference at this stage is good because I can incorporate ideas or corrections that the reviewers did not notice. All senior researchers I know that present full papers always state that the paper is currently under review by a 3* or 4* journal. 

Finally, if you don't really care much about the fact that somebody can steal your idea without your knowledge, then you can go on to send full paper to conference. You'll be sure to receive some comments.

A conference abstract is simply a summary and should have no impact on future publication of the full work to which it refers.

Thank you for the detailed explanation to my query. I understand that ideas are not steal-proof and can be extracted by reviewers of a paper or given to a lab that he or she is in cahoots with. I guess academic integrity is a difficult line to walk on. I appreciate the fact that you spent valuable time to answer my query. I too will tread carefully when it comes to conference submissions, abstracts or extended abstracts or otherwise.
