I would like to elaborate a concept for a package unit where 300kg sodium metabisulfite shall be dissolved in water (25% solution), the pH shall be controlled and adjusted with one of 4 liquids depending on the receipe. The metabisulfite can be bought in big bags and can be stored in a polypropylene storage tank. I was wondering what would be the best way to generate the solution? (first water than dosing of the solid sodium metabisulfite or to start with the sulfite and add water? Does anyone has some inspiring ideas for the dosing unit and the transport of the bisulfite to the stirred tank reactor?
Hi, it always better to add the solid into the water, because you have to stir the suspension/solution. You can dose gradually the solid into the water. If you add water to the solid it becames a mudd very difficult to stir, being necessary a lot of enegy to dissolve. Also, uoy can adjuste the final concentration by adding small quantitites of liquid or solid . You can think to dose the solid, for example, by a screw driver.
make the volume calucle of your reactor and put the necessary amount of water before adding your caution to desoderate, then progressively add sodium metabisulfite just as you get your concentration by 25%. take note of the reaction of desolution, a gas is liberate.
