I have not come across a specific publication dealing with this phenomenon. I think co-dependence is an apt term, and perhaps displacement (as observed in MPA implementation, where surrounding areas receive higher pressure from displaced fishers) might also describe what you are looking for. In a 2014 paper (Ferse et al. in Regional Environmental Change) we described shifts in target species in an artisanal fishery in Indonesia following the opening up of new market opportunities, enabled by the existence of patron-client networks and the presence of gears that were common to the different target species (from sea cucumbers to groupers and ornamental corals, all of which were enabled by the presence of compressors). This made it easy for fishers to shift their target species, and such a constellation will likely spur increased harvesting of related species should one target become less desirable or feasible (whether because of regulations or other reasons).

I think that you are on to something important here. Interactions among fisheries through the fish or their ecosystems are familiar and much discussed. Interactions through the choices of fishermen (and others engaged in the fisheries) are also familiar, at least to those of us who have worked in the field, but I can't think of any seminal papers or broad reviews of the many case studies -- though that may only illustrate my ignorance. There are also interactions through the choices of fishery managers: close an area to mobile gear and it can become a valued ground for fixed-gear fishermen, while a third fishery finds itself displaced by the arrival of the mobile-gear fleet, which was moved off its own chosen ground. Since the various areas likely have slightly different mixes of species, and of intra-specific population sub-groups, those changes will then cause a further round of interactions mediated through resources and ecosystems.

Maybe there is scope for you to nail down some theory and explore it through a range of case studies!
