I am FTE clinician and I have the same conditions for academic promotion as my basic scientist and pre-clinician (medicine) colleagues. And they have research and lectures in FTE while we also do that beside FTE clinician job. What you think about that, any suggestions?
If there are more than just one or two of you who have clinical duties, then you should band together and propose different promotion standards for clinicians. Not laxer standards, of course, but different standards. There are certain things that great clinicians do that make them different from just good clinicians. Things like attracting patients from throughout the United States rather than just local patients. Write up those standards and substitute them for standards that only make sense for basic scientists.
