I don't think, there is any harm but it's always good to keep your citation at minimum, especially in research papers. But while writing a policy review, it becomes imperative both the ways, to cite your work to give a shape to concept , you are proposing and secondly, it gives a reviewer to gauge your standing on the subject.

If my work need to be quoted, I do it to build on the previous work. I donot think it will negatively impact my academic life. But I would refrain from excessive self citation that too out of context. It is like any other ehtics we are bound in respect of writing research papers.
Self-citation is acceptable whenever is necessary, especially for the related work. But it should not be a strange habit such as citing 20 papers at the same time if 10% of your references is from your relevant papers should be no problem.
If the work is real and impressive which directly correlated to their future work. There is no issue to cite their previous work having same authorship.
Usually, research works maybe correlated to each other if the works are done in a span of time in a project. What is harm if the author(s) cite their own related previous research publications? REGARDS!
Why should one wait for others to cite your work , you yourself can take the initiative to develop a story out of your work and introduce the world community , that this is how I am thinking on a given issue and then , suddenly you find your ideas are sold like a hot cake..so it's both ways...but I am surely gainst not citing your work...
Citation of own work not only important academic point of view but also for copyright. Do you know, If you are not cited own work it is a serious matter of copyright? Please cite own work, as well as others, work whos literature help you to discuss your own findings.
@ Dr. Anoop, do not wait for others to cite your work, give maximum visibility to your work with caution. @ Dr. Rajvir Yadav, self referencing is good in all aspects.@Anupam Tiwari self citation is also seen a researcher's work copyright.Really appreciate your candid views about the discussion.
If you don't blow your own trumpet who will? Citing your own work is a good way to tell others around the globe what you are doing but caution should be taken not to cite unnecessarily.
If the self-citation is improving the quality of the academic paper, then so be it. Yet, we need to remember that 'too much of everything is bad'. Overly citing one's own work is academically not healthy. We need to acknowledge the beautiful and pragmatic ideas of other scholars that can bring diversity in the thoughts expressed in our research works. Best regards
