I am writing a Ph.D thesis and obtained information about how a product was prepared (a purified protein sample) from the vendor. The information was exchanged via email. When I asked them for a document to cite, they stated that it was for only their internal use. Would anyone have any recommendations as to an appropriate/standard way to cite this information?

This is a case where a primary source can not be cited, I recommend that you look for other similar investigations that they have, because otherwise it does not exist (or at least I do not know) way to reference it. Although similarly you can reference similar studies, even if they are not from the same source, or analogies.

Unfortunately this is a product detail specific to the lot/product that I purchased, which would not be applicable to other studies. The vendor determined the volume of the buffer that the protein was in prior to its lyophiliation, which would vary based on the lot. I am not sure how I would cite this information

You may cite only published information, but you can give a description of the product instead of citation, in a way that does not infringe the vendor's rights.
