Recently I've switched from a windows computer to a mac. For years jabref (https://www.jabref.org/) has been my reference management software. I use the .bib files with LaTeX for the majority of my citations. However, for reports and some documents that use a word template, I have been using docear4word (https://docear.org/software/add-ons/docear4word/download/) which integrates beautifully with MS Word under windows OS.
Docear for word cannot be installed in word for mac, and I've maintained curated .bib databases using jabref for my CV (over 300 entries) and research (approx. 4000 entries).
Does anyone know feasible alternatives -not requiring the quite imperfect export of .bib entries to .xml- of using .bib files with MS Word using macos? I suspect I'm not alone in this pursuit ...
Replying to my own question ... I found this solution:
1) Install zotero - https://www.zotero.org/support/adding_items_to_zotero
2) install/configure zotero MS-WORD plugin
3) Export selected references from Jabref to a .bib file OR just import the whole database with zotero, File--> Import --> select .bib of your choice
4) open MS-Word, and cite!
--> It's not docear4work,,, but works

What like in my solution, is the ability of controlling the source of your references in .bib format. For me is like maintaining code and I like the options and control that come with it. I will try me 'zotero solution' with Mendeley instead, following your suggestion.

I have been using Mendeley Desktop (discontinued), Mendeley Reference Manager, and Mendeley Cite on macOS for a while. The old Mendeley Desktop worked with local BIB and PDF files, and it didn’t have the new online functionalities. However, it had some options that I used and liked a lot. It used to sort out local files by renaming their folders and files with fields like author, date, title, or whatever you prefer. It was simple but fantastic to share with students and colleagues. The Mendeley Reference Manager no longer uses a local bib file, which has made it less flexible to adapt the citations to the Brazilian Academic Standard. Due to these limitations, I have been trying other tools such as JabRef and came across Zotero in this discussion. For now, I have been using Zotero, which apparently is a good option for my needs. Unfortunately, it didn’t import all of my references from Mendeley or JabRef, but I am trying to solve that.
I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.
Gustavo Henrique Naves Givisiez I have managed to make a duplicate from my JabRef bib file entries into Zotero. I've done this by importing a master JabRef .bib with ~3500 entries into Zotero. I've also made sure that the BibTex Key remained the same in Zotero - there's an option for that (which I don't recall exactly). The problem was that this workflow requires an update of both bibliographies which was both annoying and cumbersome. For me this remains an open problem that I try to avoid by using LaTeX whenever I can - although sometimes is quite difficult or even impossible to avoid using MS Word.
