Dear Colleagues,

I am PhD student from Poland. I have conducted some research on identity development in last months and I have a problem with the scale "exploration in depth" in The Dimensions of Identity Development Scale developed by Koen Luyckx and colleagues. My analysis have revealed poor internal reliability of this scale in my three studies (.69, .59., .48). Internal reliability of other scales from DIDS and other measures (e.g. Meaning in Life Questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory) was good. Only this one was problematic. Does anyone have a similar problem?

I have observed that the most problematic items were items number 21. and 24. They are related to "social" context o exploration in depth: talking with others about one's plans, putting effort to getting to know what other people think about one's plans. My explanation of this phenomenon is as follows. Maybe it is that due to pandemic some aspects of normative exploration in depth are inaccessible for young people and, accordingly, this scale can not be use to measure identity development in the same way as before the pandemic? What do you think about that?

Kind regards,

Kamil Janowicz
